About

I'm Quinn Grasteit, a Principal Solutions Architect at AWS, working with enterprise retail customers in Korea. My work spans cloud architecture and applied AI, with a focus on helping teams turn complex technical problems into systems they can build and operate.

How I got here

I grew up on a farm in a small town and started out as a mechanic in the family business. University wasn't part of my path. I learned through hands-on work and certifications, following my curiosity about how things worked.

Around age 20, I moved into IT. I started on a help desk and gravitated toward the problems other people found frustrating to troubleshoot. That led to engineering roles, then to leading IT for a healthcare organization. Later, at ClearScale and World Wide Technology, I helped organizations move to AWS and rethink how they built and ran their systems.

I joined AWS in 2019, later co-founded FireFlower AI, and returned to AWS in 2025. Across those roles, I've kept coming back to the same kind of work: understanding a difficult problem well enough to make the next step clear.

Things I've worked on

  • Healthcare software. I designed and built a home care platform in Arizona that replaced paper-based processes with software caregivers could use across devices. It brought together application development and the day-to-day needs of the people using it.
  • Cloud infrastructure. My work has included university infrastructure on Kubernetes, large application migrations, and automation that helps teams deploy and operate their own systems. I've also helped teams work through the decisions and dependencies that can stall a migration.
  • Applied AI. As a co-founder and Chief AI Officer at FireFlower AI, I helped build an enterprise generative AI platform with a focus on responsible use in the public sector. My broader work has included recommendation systems, machine learning, and making information in complex documents more useful.

I enjoy the technical detail, but a lot of my contribution happens between people: translating a problem, helping a team agree on a direction, or mentoring someone as they take on something unfamiliar.

Why I write

This site is where I work through questions about technology, philosophy and family life. Some pieces come from something I've built; others start with a question I can't leave alone.

For a sense of the technical side, start with my approach to extracting data from complex PDFs or using XML tags to structure AI prompts.
